January 2027 — the old town is a nine-day sell-out

The encierro runs at eight every morning for eight days, and the festival never stops in between. The old town is where everything happens and where nothing is quiet; ten minutes south in the Ensanche costs less and lets you sleep, which after three days matters more than you think.

Getting there

Pamplona’s own airport has a handful of domestic flights. Most people fly into Bilbao and take the bus, which runs every couple of hours and takes about two hours door to door.

The old town is small enough to cross in fifteen minutes. During the fiesta the encierro route and the streets around it close from before dawn; buses divert and taxis will not cross.

If you want to watch the run, be behind the barriers by 06:00 for a place, or rent a balcony — the only comfortable way to see it, booked months ahead.

Questions

When is San Fermín 2027?
6–14 July 2027, as every year. The chupinazo is at noon on 6 July; the last encierro is on the morning of 14 July.
Do the dates ever change?
No. They are fixed to the saint's day and have not moved in centuries.
Where do I watch the encierro?
Behind the barriers from 06:00, or from a rented balcony on Estafeta. The runs last about three minutes.
Is the old town worth the price?
For one or two nights, yes. For nine, the Ensanche is ten minutes away and you will sleep, which decides how much of the festival you actually see.
What should I wear?
White with a red sash and neckerchief, like everyone else. It is not a costume here; it is what the city wears for nine days.
