Sixteen days, and the only ones that are genuinely hard are the weekends. A Tuesday in the second week has the same tents, the same beer and a table you can walk into at four in the afternoon — at half the hotel rate of the opening Saturday.

Getting there

Munich airport is 45 minutes from the centre on the S1 or S8; Memmingen is two hours away by bus and only worth it for a cheap flight.

The Theresienwiese has its own U-Bahn station, and the Hauptbahnhof is a ten-minute walk away. During Oktoberfest the U4 and U5 run packed from mid-afternoon — walking from the station is usually quicker.

Tables inside the tents are free to use but reservations are gone by spring; without one, go before 11:00 on a weekday or sit outside in the beer gardens, which are first-come all day.

Questions

When is Oktoberfest 2027?
18 September to 3 October 2027 — sixteen days, ending on German Unity Day.
Do I need a ticket?
No. Entry to the Wiesn and the tents is free; what you need is a seat, and on weekends that means a reservation made months ahead.
Which days are quiet?
Monday to Thursday, especially in the second week. The difference between a Tuesday and a Saturday is the difference between walking in and queueing for two hours.
How far in advance do hotels go?
Weekend nights go nine to twelve months out at three times the normal rate. Midweek nights in the second week are still available in the spring.
Is it worth staying outside the city?
On weekends, yes — the S-Bahn ring is 45 minutes out and a third of the price. Midweek there is no need.
