Four days of the same hill, with the crowd doubling at the weekend. Chichester is small and the same weekend takes The Open to St Andrews, so the hotel squeeze here is local, not national: everything within half an hour goes, and Portsmouth does not.

Getting there

Chichester station is on the line from London Victoria via Gatwick, and shuttle buses run from the station to the gates throughout the day. It is the only sane way in without a car.

Driving, the event signs you off the A27 into fields that turn to mud in a wet July. Arrive before 09:00 on Saturday and Sunday or spend the first hour of the day queueing.
